...And we're back!

Okay, so the continuing of the blog didn't happen quite as I'd intended. Life is complicated, we get so busy, you know the story. So, now we're back.

Ben and I have been reading Erica's old entries in the blog at night as part of our bedtime routine. It's great to read all of these events from Erica's point of view and have Erica tell Ben all of these stories herself. (Well done, Momma!) I read most of the posts out loud and here and there I'll hear Taylor announce from downstairs, "I remember that!". She's lucky.

So, inspired once again to continue what she started...

Today was the first day of school in Clay County, where my children go to school. Ben went into 5th grade this year and got the very Teachers that both Taylor and my friend Beth told me we wanted. Right on. I was able to meet both of his teachers at orientation and I was very pleased. Ben jumped into the van at parent pick-up after school (I had the day off today) and announced, "Best first day of school ever!". That is certainly the way you would prefer to start the school year. We didn't expect to much drama for Ben, really. He's in a class with is best friend, Brady, in a school he's been going to for 5 years, where his older sister attended for 7 years and where is mother was all up in the business back in the day...he's all dialed in.

Taylor, on the other hand, was in a different situation. Taylor's first day of school this year was her first day of High School. Crazy grown-up is this girl! You see what happens when you keep feeding them? We went to orientation on Friday and we copped a schedule and a map and she navigated us around to all of her classes and met most of her teachers. We pointed at some people we know, and had a pretty productive morning. When I see her after school and ask how was her day? "I got lost. A couple times" she admitted. She has a good sense of humor about it, though. I know she was nervous but I know she'll be fine. Oh, and I also get..."Dad! My uterus hurts!". What a day for that to roll around. And she's also fond of adding, "...and it's all your fault!" I guess she has a point.
